Abstract:
This study evaluates the economics of rearing and marketing of Khillar bulls in Solapur district of Maharashtra. A total of 60 farmers from Sangola and Mangalwedha tehsils were selected, classified into breeding and draught bull rearers. Results indicated that the average cost of rearing a Khillar bull was ?81,480.9, with breeding bulls incurring higher costs and earning greater returns. The output-input ratio was 3.87 for breeding and 2.24 for draught bulls. Marketing efficiency was significantly higher for breeding bulls (30.9) than for draught bulls (21.43). The study concludes that Khillar bull rearing is a profitable enterprise, especially in the breeding segment, and recommends improved market access and feed resources.
