Survey on housing management practices followed by buffalo owners in Banaskantha and Mehsana District of North Gujarat

Abstract: The present investigation was carried out to know the housing management practices followed by buffalo owners in Banaskantha and Mehsana district of north Gujarat. The data were collected from randomly selected 180 buffalo owners from two districts through personal interview with the help of structured interview schedule. The present study revealed that majority of buffalo keepers (63.33%) were provided pucca type of housing to their animals. About 83.33 percent of animal sheds were separate from dwelling but nearby to their dwelling. Majority of buffalo owners (89.44%) followed single raw housing system while only 10.56 percent followed head to head system. Majority of dairy farm had earthen and galvanized irons sheet roof. Manger facility was observed in 72.22 percent of dairy farm from that 43.33 percent had pucca type manger. About 82.22 percent had manure pit at distant location where 17.78 percent had adjacent.
