Abstract:
Newcastle disease is a viral disease which affects avian species and cause heavy economic loss to the poultry farmers. Escherichia coli often complicates the viral infections in avian species. Few reports are available on the outbreak of Newcastle disease combined with Escherichia coli infection in layer poultry. This outbreak report explaining the coinfection status of both Newcastle disease virus and Escherichia coli infections in a layer poultry at the age of 18 and 35 weeks in an organized cage system of poultry rearing in R Sitapura village of Odisha state. Based on the information given by the farm personal an investigation work was carried out. The clinical diagnosis was based on the information’s collected from the farm records, clinical signs observed by the investigation team, pathological lesions evidenced by in the postmortem findings and the culture studies for confirmation of Escherichia coli and serological studies for the confirmation of Newcastle disease virus. These studies confirmed the concurrent infections of Newcastle disease virus and Escherichia coli in the layer poultry in the absence of valid biosecurity measures, and robust vaccination schedule for ND virus where the endemicity is existing for both.
