Clinical management of transmissible venereal tumor in a bitch

Author(s): Manisha Sethi, Nadeem Shah and Dileep Kumar Yadav
Abstract: Transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) is a contagious neoplasm of canine external genitalia, commonly transmitted through coitus. It typically affects sexually active dogs and is prevalent in free-roaming populations. This short communication describes a clinical case of TVT in a 7-year-old bitch presented with a history of vulvar bleeding and protruding mass. Diagnosis was confirmed via physical examination and cytological evaluation. The tumor was managed successfully with weekly autohemotherapy for 2 weeks followed by intramuscular administration of low dose of vincristine sulfate for four consecutive weeks. Complete regression of the mass was observed without recurrence during the follow-up period. This case underscores the efficacy of vincristine chemotherapy and the importance of early diagnosis and control of TVT to prevent its spread in canine populations.
