Ocular worm extraction surgery in equines
Author(s): RK Gosai, Abhishek Patel, JB Patel and AM Patel
Abstract: Ocular infestation by filarial eye worms is a rare but significant parasitic condition in horses. Seven horses were presented with corneal opacity persisting for the past 10 days. Ophthalmic examination revealed partial vision loss, epiphora, corneal edema, and the presence of a thread-like, continuously moving worm in the aqueous humor of the anterior chamber. Surgical extraction of the worms was performed under general anesthesia with a supraorbital nerve block. Complete corneal transparency was observed within 25 to 30 days. All horses recovered uneventfully.
