Successful homeopathic intervention in the clinical management of rectal prolapse in a neonatal kitten

Abstract: A case of rectal prolapse was reported in a four-month-old domestic kitten presented to the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC), PGIVER, Jaipur. The primary clinical complaint involved a protruding, tubular, pink mass through the anal orifice, accompanied by mild mucosal necrosis, persisting for approximately 48 hours. Based on clinical examination, a diagnosis of full-thickness rectal prolapse was established. Due to the patient’s young age and compromised systemic condition, a conservative, non-invasive treatment approach was adopted. Individualized homeopathic therapy comprising Sepia 200C and Ruta 200C was initiated. A favourable clinical response was observed within 48 hours of treatment onset, with complete resolution of prolapse and associated symptoms by the seventh day. The treatment protocol led to the restoration of normal appetite, improved energy levels, and no recurrence during the follow-up period. This case highlights the potential efficacy of homeopathic medicine as a safe, non-toxic, and cost-effective alternative in the conservative management of rectal prolapse in feline patients, particularly in those unfit for surgical intervention.
