Author(s): D Priyanka, G Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, PS Girish, C Ramakrishna and MV Sneha Sharada
Abstract: Slaughterhouses generaternlarge volume of waste annually. All these wastes produced from the abattoirrnoperations pose a threat to the environment and adversely affect public health.rnCharacterization of waste is important because it helps in selecting the treatmentrnmethods. In the present study liquid waste generated during the slaughter ofrnsheep was collected and transferred into the bio-methanation tank of 2 cubicrnmeter capacity. In the output slurry the Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and potassiumrnwere 150±20 mg/L, below the detectable level, and 46.5±1.06 mg/L respectively.rnBefore slaughter approximately 125-300 ml of blood was collected from thernjugular vein of sheep in a sterile round bottom flask containing the glassrnbeads and it is used for the preparation of blood agar.
