Cytological diagnosis of perianal adenoma in a Labrador dog: A case report

Abstract: A six year old intactrnmale Labrador dog was presented at Sanchu Animal Hospital, Velachery, Chennairnfor diagnosis and treatment for the presence of mass on the perianal regionrnwith bleeding since more than one month. Physical examination of the affectedrndog showed a irregular circumscribed mass which was soft in consistency withrnulcerated surface located on the dorsum of the anus. Cytological examination ofrnthe impression smears collected from the ulcerated nodule revealed the presencernof clusters of monomorphic neoplastic cells resembling hepatoid cells. Therncytoplasm was faintly basophilic containing spherical to ovoid nuclei withrnprominent nucleoli. In addition, few numbers of reserve cells which wererndensely packed with basophilic cytoplasm possessing an increased nuclear torncytoplasmic ratio were also noticed. Based on the cytological examination, thernmass was identified as perianal adenoma.
