Abstract: A biological experiment was conducted with 240 commercial (Vencobb), sexed, day-old broiler chicks to study the effect of dietary lysozyme supplementation as an alternative to antibiotics on the carcass characteristics of commercial broiler chicken at 35 days of age. These chicks were randomly grouped into six treatments with four replicates of ten chicks each and fed as per Vencobb standards with basal diet T1 (Control), T2 (Basal diet + antibiotic namely Bacitracin methyl disalicylate @ 1g per kg of feed), T3 (Basal diet + 100 mg of lysozyme per kg of feed), T4 (Basal diet +200 mg of lysozyme per kg of feed), T5 (Basal diet + 300 mg of lysozyme per kg of feed) and T6 (Basal diet + 400 mg of lysozyme per kg of feed). The results of experiment reveled that dietary lysozyme supplementation had no significant effect on pre-slaughter weight. However, in the 300 mgof lysozyme per kg of feed supplemented birds (T5 group) significant (p<0.01) improvements in dressing percentage, ready-to-cook, heart, liver, gizzard, and giblets percentages. Therefore, supplementing broiler diets with 300 mg/kg of lysozyme significantly enhanced carcass parameters.
