Effect of feeding enriched wheat straw (Triticum aestivum) on dry matter intake and body weight gain on growing goats

Abstract: The present experiment entitled “Effect of feeding enriched wheat straw (triticum aestivum) on dry matter intake and body weight gain on growing goats” was conducted at Livestock Instructional Farm, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science Dr. P.D.K.V. Akola during 2022-23.The treatment was planned as T1 (Untreated wheat straw adlib + green fodder + concentrate), T2 (1% urea treated wheat straw + green fodder + concentrate), T3 (2% urea treated wheat straw + green fodder + concentrate), T4 (3% urea treated wheat straw + green fodder + concentrate)and experiment was conducted for the period of 60 days. the results revealed that, the daily DM intake was affected significantly over the experimental period. The calves from T3 groups consumed more DM than that of T1, T2 and T4 groups. 0.442, 0.483, 0.557 and 0.522 kg/day/goats in T1, T2, T3 and T4 group respectively. The Total Body Weight gain in T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 3.18, 3.50, 4.73 and 4.05 kg respectively.
