Abstract: Nellore brown sheep is an important meat purpose breed in and around Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. A total of 70 distantly related animals of different age groups (6-12 months, 12-24 months, and 24-36 months) were randomly selected from the farm to compute various biometrical measurements like Body Weight, Face Length, Face Width, Face Height, Ear Length, Ear Width, Body Length, Withers Height, Chest Girth, Paunch Girth, Cannon Bone Circumference and Rump Width. The present investigation revealed that gender had significant (p<0.05) effect on majority of the traits at different age groups except for face height, ear length, ear width and rump width. All the measurements differed significantly (p<0.05) with age excluding the parameters like face width, face height, ear length, ear width and body length. The present findings also provide detailed characterization of the Nellore brown sheep breed at morphological level, which aid in documenting the specific and unique information pertaining to breed descriptors and genetic improvement programmes.
