A survey of ethno veterinary anthelmintics plants used by traditional veterinary healers for goats found in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam Districts of Tamil Nadu

Abstract: The survey of ethno veterinary plants used as anthelmintics in goats were carried out in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu. A total of 63 plants belonging 33 families used as anthelmintics in goats were documented during the study. Cucurbitaceae and Zingerberaceae (each 7.94% were the major plant family) were two families to which more numbers of anthelmintic plants belonged. Leaves (44%) were the predominant plant part utilised with of the plants being herbs (42.86%). Majority of the anthelminthic plants were cultivated crops (44.44%) with most of the plants / plant parts used in fresh forms for preparation of ethno veterinary anthlemintics in goats.
