Abstract: A portable dummy was designed to collect semen (N=60) from HDK 75 boar by simple fist method and various semen characteristics were studied. The service behaviour such as latency to mount, reaction time and ejaculation time was recorded to be 1.58±0.15, 2.57±0.12 and 7.49±0.11 minutes respectively. The seminal characteristics viz. the volume of gel mass, strained volume, total ejaculate volume, mass activity, initial sperm motility, live sperm, sperm concentration, abnormal sperm and HOST reacted sperm was found to be 41.93±1.44 ml, 286.62±3.35 ml, 337.37±4.09 ml, 3.51±0.07, 90.65±0.47 per cent, 95.53±0.44 per cent, 345.37±7.32 million/ml, 7.52 ± 0.19 per cent and 80.55±1.00 per cent respectively. The present findings revealed that the service behavior and seminal characteristics of HDK 75 boar was within the normal reference range, indicating probability of using low cost portable dummy in boar semen collection and processing without risking injury during the transportation of boar from pen to the collection room.
