Abstract: The present study was conducted to evaluate the potential dose-sparing effects of Dexmedetomidine-Butorphanol and Xylazine-Butorphanol premedications in Tiletamine-Zolazepam induced Anaesthesia in Goats. A total of twelve goats including Malabari, Beetal, Attapadi and non-descript, presented for various surgical conditions, such as hernias, fractures, and horn amputations were used in the study. In goats premedicated with Xylazine-Butorphanol, a non-significant anesthetic-sparing effect was observed, resulting in a reduction of 4.86% of the total volume of Tiletamine-Zolazepam required for the maintenance of general anaesthesia. This beneficial dose-sparing effect could be attributed to the synergistic interaction between xylazine, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, and Butorphanol, an opioid analgesic, which collectively enhance the analgesic and sedative properties of Tiletamine-Zolazepam, thereby allowing for a lower dosage of the dissociative anesthetic combination. The observed reduction in Tiletamine-Zolazepam volume suggests an efficient and optimal anesthetic protocol, minimizing the risk of potential adverse effects associated with higher doses of dissociative agents while maintaining adequate anesthetic depth for surgical procedures in goats.
