Abstract: A nine month old male Persian cat was presented at Sanchu Animal Hospital, Velachery, Chennai for treatment with the history of alopecia and presence of ectoparasites. Physical examination revealed presence of tiny mites clininging onto the hair shaft of the infested cat giving “pepper salt appearance” to the coat. Microscopic examination of the infested hairs revealed the presence of numerous mites crawling on its hair shaft and these mites were identified as Lynxacarus radovskyi. Based on the microscopic findings, the infested cat was treated topically with a single dose of “selamectin 6% spot-on” on the dorsal aspect of neck above shoulder blades along with oral administration of multivitamin supplement. The treated cat showed remarkable improvement in the hair coat without any mites after seven days of treatment. Thus, the present paper reports a an incidence of L. radovskyi and its successful treatment with selamectin in a cat presented at Sanchu Animal Hospital, Chennai.
