Abstract: A case of 4.5 years old female Labrador dog was registered in OPD at Veterinary Clinical Complex, College of Veterinary Science & AH, Kamdhenu University, Navsari and Gujarat with history of in-appetence, un-comfortless and passing out sanguine-purulent vaginal discharge since couple of days. The physiological parameters i.e. Body temp., Respi rate and Heart rate was in normal range and the dog was found dull and depressed during clinical examination. On physical examination, an enlarged uterus can be palpated. However, the dog was found to be quite normal with exception of vaginal discharge while vaginal examination. Ultrasonographic examination revealed anechoic & hypo-echoic image in distended uterine lumen which is separated with hyperechoic band like structure. Haematological examination revealed leukopenia with relative neutrophilia and lymphopenia while, remaining parameters were normal. Based on overall findings, Ovariohysterectomy was decided to be the choice of treatment to prevent reoccurrence of disease with consideration of poor prognosis and patient risk. A broad-spectrum antibiotic (Amoxicillin), haematinics (Transanaemic acid), anti-inflammatory (Tolfenamic Acid) and antacid (Pantoprazole) was administered intravenously through normal saline before surgery and ovariohysterectomy was performed as per standard surgical procedure under general anaesthesia using induction and maintenance by combination of diazepam (@ 0.5mg/kg, i.v) and ketamine hydrochloride (@ 5mg/kg, i.v) along with continuous infusion of normal saline intravenously. A standard postoperative management following surgery with broad-spectrum antibiotic and other supportive medicines was administered intravenously for 7 days and daily antiseptic dressing of surgical wound was done till the complete healing and removal of sutures on 12th postoperative day. The dog was recovered uneventfully and thus, the case of canine pyometra was successfully managed surgically.
