Abstract: The production of milk in the mother's body is nature's biggest gift. After birth, an adequate amount of milk secretion is very important for the proper nutrition of the baby. Those substances that overcome the deficiency of milk secretion are called galactagogues. There are many such plants in nature whose use can increase lactation by stimulating milk production not only in humans but also in diary animals without any side effects. Medicines used to promote lactation contain many active ingredients whose identification is extremely important. In the presented research paper, herbal medicines and their phytoestrogenic chemicals that promote lactation in humans and dairy animals have been focused on and reviewed. We have described 23 herbs belonging from 17 families used as galactagogues and also discussed about myths and facts about them.
