Abstract: A one-year-old female Persian cat was presented at Sanchu Animal Hospital, Velachery and Chennai for diagnosis and treatment with a history of constant shaking of head and scratching of ears since a week. Clinical examination of the ailing cat revealed dullness, intense pruritus around the ears, frequent shaking of head and presence of cerumen which was coffee coloured. Microscopic examination of cerumen revealed the presence of ear mite which was identified as Otodectes cynotis. The affected cat was treated topically with “selamectin (6%) spot on” along with oral administration of multivitamin supplement and the cat showed remarkable improvement after five days of treatment. Thus, the present paper reports a case of otoacariasis confirmed on microscopic examination and its successful treatment using selamectin in a Persian cat at Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
