Knowledge of scientific duck farming practices among traditional farmers of Kuttanad

Abstract: Duck farming is one among the customery livelihood options of Kerala, which is facing sustainability issues. Identifying lacunae in the scientific practice of this farming option lies solution for its sustainability. Dearth of scientific literature and standardised meaurement tools brought about construction of a scientific knowledge test to measure the knowledge level of farmers. Initialy 72 items were identified and modified according to pre-test. Later these were administered to 60 respondents of kuttanad area of Kerala. Based on item difficulty index and item discrimination index 18 statements were identified for the final test. These consisted of both true or false statements and choose the correct answer statements. The knowledge test was use to measure the knowledge of scientific management practices among farmers of Kuttanad. Majority of duck farmers had medium level of knowledge.
