Abstract: A 14 weeks old female Persian cat was presented at Sanchu Animal Hospital, Velachery, Chennai for diagnosis and treatment with a history of constant head jerking and scratching of ears in addition to alopecia, intense pruritis, dullness and inappetance since two weeks. Clinical examination of the ailing cat revealed the presence of dark brownish ceruminous exudates clogging the ear canal with a offensive odor present in both the ears. Examination of skin showed white itchy crust formation around the ear margins and eyes and also on the dorsum of the nose and limbs. The affected skin was found to be erythematous and showed hairless patches which were thick, leathery and wrinkled. Microscopic examination of ear discharges revealed the presence of mites suggestive of Notoedres cati. Based on the laboratory findings, the diagnosis was confirmed as Notoedric mange and the affected cat was treated topically with “Selamectin 6% spot on” along with oral administration of cefpodoxime (kefodoxime syrup ®), herbal liver tonic (Revell syrup®), immunomodulator antiinfective phagocytosis enhancer (Immunohat syrup®) and shampoo containing ketoconazole, chlorhexidine, and cetrimide (Kezopet shampoo®). The treated animal showed remarkable improvement after ten days of treatment.
