Concurrent recto-vaginal prolapse in cows: A retrospective study of eight cases

Abstract: Eight cross bred cow weighing about 280-350 kg was brought with the history of recurrent cervico vaginal prolapse accompanied with rectal prolapse during advanced pregnancy and postpartum period. A thorough physical and clinical examination revealed normal vital sign parameters. Hemato- biochemical examination revealed neutrophilia in six and hypoglycaemia and hypocalcaemia in three cases. The case was successfully treated by replacement of prolapsed vagina and rectum followed by Buhner’s and purse string suture technique respectively under epidural anaesthesia and supported therapy with antibiotics and analgesics. The objective of this report, timely intervention can save the animal from severe consequences. All the animals had uneventful recovery.
