Abstract: Andrographis paniculata (Burm F.) Nees (Acanthaceae) is an important herbal plant in India which is used in Ayurvedic system of medicine from long time. The present study aims to determine the bioactive compounds present in aqueous and ethanolic extracts of the whole plant of Andrographis paniculata by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry and phytochemical analysis. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry analysis of Andrographis paniculata whole plant extracts revealed the presence of 41 and 44 bio-active components in aqueous and ethanolic extracts respectively. The phytochemical screening of whole plant extracts performed to identify the main classes of compounds of the whole plant indicated the presence of eight common and a single different phytochemical constituent in aqueous and ethanolic extracts. The present study reports the identification of different classes of phytochemicals in the aqueous and ethanolic extracts of the whole plant of A. paniculata using qualitative phytochemical analysis and quantitative Gas Chromatography-Mass analysis demonstrating the abundance of each component.
