Abstract: The purpose of this study was to establish a reference range for Schirmer tear test (STT) values in acidosis-affected goats and to evaluate the possible impact of dehydration. The study included twenty goats that were at least two years old. Schirmer tear test (STT) commercial strips were used to measure the aqueous part of the tear film bilaterally with the animal standing. The average STT measured was 5.50 0.86 mm/min, with a range of 10.2-14.6 mm/min. Dehydration had a substantial effect on STT, and the recorded values were associated with hematocrit readings. The findings of this study give an appropriate range of STT values in goats with acidosis and show that dehydration has a major impact on tear secretion.
