Molecular diagnosis of feline panleukopenia in a kitten and its therapeutic management with filgrastim

Abstract: Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) is an infectious disease that attacks cats, both young and adult. A five -month-old Persian cat was presented to the Veterinary clinical complex, College of Veterinary Science, Rajendranagar with the history of inappetence, vomiting and diarrhoea. Clinical examination of the cat revealed dullness, depression, dehydrated, pale mucous membranes and fever (104.2 °F). Blood samples were collected for complete blood picture revealed leukopenia, neutropenia, lymphopenia and anaemia. Investigations with the FPV kit test showed positive results for the FPV virus, which was further confirmed by qRT PCR. The cat was treated with filgrastim in conjunction with other forms of supportive care, which yielded good clinical improvement.
