Ascites syndrome in broiler chicken

Abstract:
Ascites is an important metabolic disorder in broiler chicken and it was traced out in a poultry farm near Shamshabad, Ranga Reddy district, Telangana state. Ascites, a non-infectious syndrome, is characterised by causing 5 percent mortality rate, few birds showed signs of cyanosis, a bluish discoloration of skin and smaller than the normal. The dead birds were examined and they revealed an accumulation of fluid in peritoneal cavity. The owner was advised for best managemental techniques for control of ascites. The present paper describes the occurrence and pathology of ascites syndrome and associated changes in chicken.
