Abstract: The present study was designed to ascertain the effect of progesterone impregnated vaginal sponges on pre-ovulatory follicle diameter and fertility in repeat breeder cows. Twenty repeat breeder cows were divided into two groups i.e. control (n=10) and progesterone sponge treatment (n=10). The mean pre-ovulatory follicle diameter was 10.79±0.36 mm in control group and 10.96±0.30 mm in progesterone treatment group. The mean pre-ovulatory follicle diameter did not differ significantly (p>0.05) between control and progesterone treatment animals. In the present study, the first insemination conception rate was 20.00% higher in progesterone sponge treatment group as compared to control group indicating beneficial effect of progesterone sponge treatment on enhancing fertility in repeat breeder cows.
