Effect of combined Betaine, Chromium and Ascorbic acid supplementation (Betachrom C) on production performance, carcass characteristics, biochemical parameters and immune status in commercial broilers

Author(s): M Saravanajayam and G Srinivasan
Abstract: An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of Betachrom C (Each kilogram contains Betaine Hydrochloride @ 250 g, Chromium tripicolinate @ 3200 mg and Ascorbic acid @ 5g and marketed in India by Frango Lifescience Private Limited) on production performance, carcass traits, biochemical parameters and immune status in commercial broiler chicken reared under deep litter management system for 42 days of age. One-day old 200 commercial broiler chicks were randomly distributed to four groups, 5 replicates of 10 birds each. The birds fed with basal broiler diet (Control), Betachrom C -100mg per kg with basal diet (T1), Betachrom C -250mg per kg with basal diet (T2) and Betachrom C -500 mg per kg with basal diet (T3). Among four groups, the body weight gain, cumulative feed intake and FCR were 1.623Kg, 3.035Kg and 1.87 in control group, 1.915Kg, 3,409Kg and 1.78 in T1 group, 2.08Kg, 3.474Kg and 1.67 in T2 group and 2.085Kg, 3.461Kg and 1.66 in T3 group respectively (p< 0.05). The production performance was significantly higher in T2 and T3 groups than other groups and there is not statistically significant difference between T2 and T3 group. The carcass traits were significantly increased hot and chilled carcass weights and also liver, heart, spleen, gizzard weights whereas abdominal fat decreased in T2 and T3 groups than other groups (p<0.05). The estimated biochemical parameters like Corticosterone (ng/ml), glucose (mg/dl) and cholesterol (mg/dl) include 2.88, 226 and 257 in control group, 2.66, 175 and 226 in T1 group, 1.88, 158 and 212 in T2 group and 1.51, 151 and 202 in T3 group respectively and significant difference was noticed between T2and T3 with other groups (p<0.01). The geometric mean of NDV heamagglutinin inhibition titre was found that 4.2, 5.5, 6,2 and 6.4 in control, T1, T2 and T3 groups at the age of 34 days and significant difference was noticed between T2 and T3 and other groups (p<0.05). The result of present study supports that Betachrom C with 500 mg per Kg basal diet may offer higher body weight gain with low FCR, better carcass traits with lower abdominal fat, lower corticosterone, glucose and cholesterol and better NDV immune status which may pave the way for better profit for the farming community.
