Therapeutic approach to multiple intestinal parasitism in a Murrah calf: A case report

Abstract: A 20 days old murrah calf was presented to the Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu, with the history of whitish diarrhoea, weakness and inappetance for the past 2 days. On clinical examination, the calf found dull, depressed with congested conjunctival mucous membrane with steatorrhoea, whitish soiled vent and dehydration noticed. Parasitological examination revealed the presence of the unsporulated oocysts of Eimeria spp., eggs of Toxocara vitulorum and Strongyloides sp.,The calf treated with the Inj. Trimethoprim and Sulphamethoxazole @ 50 mg/kg intra-muscularly and Inj. Levamisole hydrochloride @ 7.5 mg/kg subcutaneously with oral Susp. Piperazine @ 250 mg/kg body weight and Susp. Fenbendazole @ 5mg/kg bodyweight along with the multivitamin supplementation. The animal was successfully recovered uneventfully after the treatment.
