Successful management of tetanus in a dog with immunoglobins

Abstract: A two year old rajapalayam dog was presented to the small animal medicine unit of Veterinary College and Research Institute hospital, Namakkal with the history of difficulty in taking food, recumbency, stiffened hind legs and locked jaw for two days. Haematobiochemical values are normal in the range. Ultrasonography revealed normal study. The case was diagnosed as Tetanus and the treatment was initiated with Inj. procaine penicillin 10,000 IU per kg b.wt, IM, Inj. Ringers lactate 10 ml/kg, IV for two days and Inj. Tetanus immunoglobin @1250 IU total dose IM as single dose. Animal showed improvement on the fifth day of treatment.
