Abstract:
A six-month-old female Indian Mastiff (Bully Kutta) was presented to the Veterinary Clinical Complex at the Veterinary College and Research Institute in Salem with a history of inappetence and multiple wart-like growths in the oral cavity for one month. The animal had previously been treated with ivermectin, lithium antimony thiomalate, and thuja (a homeopathic medicine) without showing any improvement. The animal exhibited multiple cauliflower-like growths on the lips, buccal cavity, tongue, and palate. These growths were pinkish-white in color and were diagnosed as canine oral papillomatosis based on clinical examination. Haematological analysis on day 1 revealed anemia and thrombocytopenia, while biochemical analysis results were within normal ranges. Histopathological examination showed acanthosis, hyperkeratosis of the outer layer, irregular rete pegs, and dermal papillae or finger-like projections. The animal was treated with a formalin-inactivated autogenous vaccine, which proved to be effective. The autogenous vaccine was administered at a dose rate of 1 ml per 10 kg body weight subcutaneously, once in a week for three consecutive weeks. The animal started showing improvement on day 14, with complete recovery noted on day 21 and improvement in haematological values.
