Abstract: Babesiosis in dogs is one of the most important lifethreatening tick borne haemoprotozoan diseases of dogs caused by intraerythrocytic protozoan parasites of the genus Babesia reported worldwide and in various parts of India. A 3 year old male Labrador was presented to Small Animal Medical Unit, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Udumalpet with a history of difficulty in weigt bearing, fever and off feed. The dog was dull with elevated rectal temperature, heart rate and respiration rate. Peripheral blood smear examination and PCR test confirmed the presence of Babesia gibsoni infection in the affected dog. Reduced hemoglobin, PCV; mild elevation of creatinine, total leucocyte count, neutrophils were recorded during hemato-biochemical analysis. The dog was treated with single dose of injection diminazene aceturate on the day of confirmation and a tripple therapy was initiated with Doxycycline, Enrofloxacin and Metronidazole for the subsequent 21 days. Complete clinical recovery was recorded after 21 days of treatment.
