Abstract:
The canine transmissible venereal tumor is the most commonly reported malignant neoplasm of the vulva or the vagina and accounts for 23-43% of canine neoplasms. The present study involved a total of twelve dogs diagnosed with transmissible venereal tumor based on gynaeco-clinical examination, gross morphology of the tumor and impression smear cytology and divided into two groups. Group I (N=6) dogs were treated with injection vincristine sulphate 0.025mg/kg b.wt I/V on day 0, 7, 14 and 21. Group II (N=6) dogs were treated with injection vincristine sulphate @ 0.025mg/kg b.wt I/V on 0th and 14th day and L-asparaginase @5,000 I.U/m2 BSA I/V on 7th and 21st day. The haemato-biochemical parameters were studied in both the groups before and after treatment. No significant changes were noticed in the hemato-biochemistry profile in both the groups. Combination therapy with vincristine sulphate and L-asparaginase was more effective with fewer adverse reactions and reduced treatment duration.
