Abstract: Body Condition Score (BCS) is an essential management tool in cattle production, offering valuable insights into the nutritional status, reproductive health and overall productivity of bovine species. Recent studies have underscored its critical role in enhancing cattle welfare and optimizing farm profitability. BCS assessment helps in tailored nutritional strategies to meet specific needs, ensuring cattle maintain optimal weight for better milk production in dairy cattle and improved meat quality in beef cattle. Additionally, maintaining an appropriate BCS is associated with enhanced reproductive performance, reducing the incidence of calving difficulties and improving conception rates. Advances in technology, such as automated BCS assessment tools and mobile apps are making it easier for farmers to monitor and manage BCS accurately and consistently. The present review explores into these aspects, emphasizing the broader implications of BCS on sustainable cattle management practices, animal welfare and economic efficiency in modern cattle farming.
