Surgical management of traumatic ventral hernia by herniorrhaphy: A review of 2 cases

Abstract: Two farm animals were presented to Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, Gannavaram of which first case was female Cow aged 3 years weighing about 200 kg and second case was female buffalo aged 1 year weighing about 300 kg with a history of external trauma at ventral abdomen. The animals were sedated using protocol - inj. Butorphenol @ 0.01 mg /kg B. wt, inj. Xylazine @ 0.02 mg/kg B. wt & inj. Ketamine @ 0.04 mg/ kg B.wt and the area was locally anesthetized with 2% Lignocaine. Hernial ring was identified by extending the wound edge and herniorrhaphy was done by simple interrupted suture pattern using Nylon. The animals showed uneventful recovery.
