A Review of Moringa oleifera as animal fodder: Nutritive value and health aspects

Author(s): Vinay Kumar Singh
Abstract: Moringa oleifera, widely recognized for its nutritional and medicinal properties, holds significant potential as animal fodder. This review assesses its nutritive value and medicinal aspects in the context of animal husbandry. Rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, Moringa foliage offers a sustainable alternative to conventional feed sources, addressing nutritional deficiencies in livestock diets. Moreover, its bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids and phenolics, contribute to antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, enhancing animal health and immunity. The inclusion of Moringa in animal fodder has shown promising results in improving growth performance, milk yield, and reproductive parameters. However, challenges such as palatability and dosage require further exploration. Overall, integrating M. oleifera into livestock diets not only enhances nutritional intake but also promotes animal health through its medicinal attributes, presenting a viable option for sustainable and holistic animal farming practices.
