Abstract: Studies on the prevalence of fungal and dermatophytes infections in a caprine unit of a private farm was carried out as per the request of the farm owner, since skin lesions were observed by them in majority of the goats. The farm had a total population of 32 goats, i.e 18 Sirohi and 14 Beetal breeds all aged about more than 6 months. Since the clinical examination revealed the skin lesions such as dryness, crust formation, scales, alopecia etc, a detailed examinations for fungal and dermatophytes were carried out by culture studies and staining techniques by collecting skin scrapings from all the animals. The skin examination revealed the prevalence’s of Trichophyton verrucosum, Microsporum gypseum, Aspergillus niger, Exserohilum rostratum, Alternaria alternata and Paracoccidioides brasiliensis in 16 numbers of Sirohi and 12 numbers of Beetal goats. The predisposing risk factors attributed for the causation of the above mentioned diseases in both breeds were discussed.
