Abstract: A study was carried out to evaluate the hardness value (kg) of aerobic, vacuum, and modified atmospheric packaged dry pet food prepared with whole chicken. The texture of the pet food pellets was assessed using a 100 kg load cell-equipped texture analyser from Stable Micro Systems Ltd., TA HD plus, UK, with a 35 mm cylindrical probe (P/35).
The (mean±SE) hardness value is maintained uniformly at 14.53±0.07 on day 0. The one to six months hardness value of the dry pet food samples prepared with whole chicken packed under aerobic, vacuum and modified atmospheric packaged were recorded. In Aerobic higher hardness is observed in the first month, and the lower is in the sixth month. In the Vacuum exhibited no significant difference among them. Similarly, samples packed by modified atmospheric method from 1 to 6 months exhibited no significant difference among them. Higher hardness is found in MAP pet food samples, and lower is in aerobically packed samples. Therefore, these findings revealed that the hardness of dry pet food samples packed with MAP was significantly highest and it was lowest in aerobically packed samples.
