Massive insulin overdose in a dog requiring extended observation and management

Abstract: A case of 5.5 years old Golden retriever breed dog with history of shivering, dullness and seizures after insulin overdose was presented in Medicine emergency at multispecialty veterinary hospital, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, Punjab. The blood glucose level was 36 mg/ dL on presentation and the dog was immediately put on I.V. 20 per cent dextrose supplementation. Continuous patient monitoring for body vitals and hourly blood glucose monitoring along with treatment of hypoglycemia using different concentrations of parenteral dextrose and oral feeding of complex carbohydrates was done for next 24 hours till the blood glucose level was maintained at normal physiological range.
