Abstract:
The present study was conducted to evaluate the synergistic effect of liquorice root powder (LRP), asparagus root powder (ARP) and lemongrass oil (LGO) on serum cholesterol, antioxidant response and heterophil lymphocyte (H/L) ratio of broiler chickens. 300-day-old broilers were randomly distributed into six treatments namely: T1-control, T2–0.05% antibiotic (AB), T3– LRP+ARP, T4- LRP+LGO, T5– ARP+LGO and T6– LRP+ARP+LGO. Results revealed significantly (p<0.05) decreased serum cholesterol levels with all the combination groups and higher glutathione reductase and superoxide dismutase activity with T4 and T5 respectively. Whereas, no difference was noticed on glutathione peroxidase activity. H/L ratio was significantly (p<0.05) decreased with all combinations and antibiotic. This study indicated that supplementation of LRP (0.1%), ARP (0.2%) and LGO (0.025%) in combinations can be included in broiler diets and can replace antibiotic growth promoters.
